Cryptos will never set us free!
A revised understanding of progress is essential. The global community echoes outdated methods. Current societal frameworks lag behind technological advancements, with force employed to maintain centralized dominion.
In recent history, the USA highlighted central planning to critique communism's inefficiencies. This was both a promotional stance and truth-telling.
Blockchain and cryptocurrencies hold the promise of promoting decentralization. Some argue that Bitcoin's inception aimed at achieving economic decentralization.
Nowadays, Bitcoin has transitioned into a speculative financial commodity rather than being widely adopted as a decentralized monetary system.
None of these ideas are new.
If we're aiming to embrace decentralization, we need fresh perspectives on the societal possibilities that lie ahead and innovative approaches to reach those horizons.
Beware Utopia
There are those who believe that what's termed as 'honest money' can restructure society for the better. This notion, however, is rather disconnected from reality. Historically, the era of a global gold standard preceded central banking yet was marked by tumult and upheaval.
Despite reliance on honest gold and silver, history witnessed wars, colonial pursuits, enslavement, and massacres, making it simplistic to attribute these phenomena to the monetary system alone.
Our issues delve deeper into human nature. As a species that creates groundbreaking technologies, we often neglect the moral grounding necessary to wield these advancements responsibly.
Additionally, the narrative of sacrificing 'for a brighter future' often masks the atrocities we commit. Recently, the perils of blockchain and massive datasets have been a focal point of concern. This has long been humanity's existential challenge, residing at the core of our collective existence.
With the technological capabilities we possess today, humanity recognizes the feasibility of creating a better world.
Yet, the true complexity lies in navigating the path to this improved world.
Heaven and Hell
In the early days of cryptocurrency's rise, we foresaw blockchain's pivotal role.
The WEF saw it coming too:
The World Economic Forum (WEF) Highlights Blockchain's Role as a Transformative Technology
Globally influential technocrats comprehensively understand data's pivotal role today. From smartphone use to ordering food or making transactions, data permeates everything.
We live in data heaven!
However, data can be wielded to establish oppressive regimes, as observed in nations like China.
The core dilemma revolves around values. With each technological advancement, there's a tendency to prioritize expansion and profits over human empathy.
Consider the dire homelessness situation and despair prevalent in the USA, an example and the intense poverty levels apparent worldwide. Our intention isn't to unsettle, but many face neglect in the global fabric of society.
A utopia for a select few, while many endure hardship, demonstrates that technology alone isn't the panacea for global betterment.
The Value of Violence
While decentralization might present broader benefits to humanity, it must be interwoven with a reassessment of our relationship to aggression. The mention of violence might evoke images of public altercations.
Not so!
Societal structures often root in forms of control.
When a nation loses control over force within its confines, it's labeled as a failed state. We tend to overlook how implicit or explicit force—like riot police lines—underpins societal structures. Humans inherently possess violent tendencies.
Thus, considering decentralization's role in fostering communities amidst such foundational force is crucial. Historical repression gives way to dissolution, as seen in leaders like Bashar al-Assad or Muammar Gaddafi.
Still, ponder if Syria or Libya maintain their past identity—plan a trip and share the experience!
The Right Size…
Modern states' scale may be overly expansive.
Centralized systems often stifle individual identity. In smaller democracies, residents' voices resonate stronger. Decentralization could spawn smaller governing bodies catering to individual and collective well-being.
Take the USA as an example of oversized political frameworks. The evident deep-seated divisions serve no one. Adopting smaller governance models could avert such distress.
Decentralization's course isn't straightforward since it counters centuries of societal norms. However, fostering tranquility demands reimagined social constructs.
Let’s Be Realistic
Proposed solutions by current authorities rarely dismantle entrenched systems, and understandably so. Any shift towards an equitable framework diminishes established authority's grip.
Debates over economic ideologies are prevalent, but they overshadow crucial issues. Corporate profit imperatives drive today's global societal crisis.
Admittedly, we appreciate profit-driven privileges and the leisure they enable. Yet, when largescale profit motives dominate, serious complications ensue.
Presently, the global elite controls disproportionate wealth while vast populations endure significant deprivation, even in 'advanced' countries like the USA, many can’t muster $1,000 for an emergency.
Cryptocurrencies and blockchain present remarkable opportunities. Our fascination is unwavering. But constructing a fairer society requires moral introspection, not political dogmatism.
Bitcoin Was A Good Start
Stepping beyond conventional assessments, one might argue Bitcoin forfeited its ethical stance.
The crypto landscape diverged markedly since our initial exploration into universally accessible digital finance. Barriers dissolved, and central banks lost control over this new currency format.
Initially lauded as revolutionary, Bitcoin now metamorphoses into an asset instrumental for financial behemoths. There's little point mourning its transformation.
Op-Ed: Reflecting on Bitcoin's Evolution from Digital Currency to Global Commodity
Today, understanding Bitcoin's initial allure matters most. It wasn't merely innovative technology—more advanced solutions exist now. Its appeal lay in empowering everyday people against exploitative global frameworks prioritizing power over populace.
The distress is tangible, transcending economic theories.
Both blockchain and cryptocurrencies serve as instruments. The choice of society lies in our hands. A piece of advice: refrain from outsourcing this decision to AI. We possess the resources to craft a compassionate world, but the time to act is now.
