As part of the celebration, two NFT series will be introduced. The first is exclusive to Shibuya participants, while the second will be accessible on a global scale via the Flickplay market later.
To participate in the hunt, To join, users will need to purchase an Experience Pass in a pre-sale. This pass provides them with Diamonds, the in-app currency of Flickplay, which can be swapped for Pac-Man digital treasures when visiting certain areas.
Purchasing the Experience Pass comes with a perk – buyers immediately receive a Pac-Man digital collectible, plus a special 'Mystery Super Rare item' as announced by Flickplay.
Much like Pokémon Go, participants must travel to select areas within Shibuya City to claim the digital assets using Diamonds.
Flickplay currently supports multiple blockchain networks, such as Flow, Ethereum, and Polygon, and is exploring more, although the one for Pac-Man NFTs is yet to be decided.
The digital treasures will offer multiple applications within the Flickplay ecosystem, allowing users to create interactive GIFs and Tamagotchi-like activities.
Pierina Merino, CEO of Flickplay, shared with Decrypt that they are exploring further uses for the collectibles, aiming for deeper integration with popular games.
The collectible's limited availability makes the scavenger hunt a competitive and time-sensitive event during its four-day span.
Following successful past endeavors, Flickplay aims to boost cross-platform transition of digital collectibles, as seen with their Bratz Dolls in The Sandbox game.
Looking forward to 2025, Flickplay plans to enhance the portability of digital collectibles, making transitions between environments smoother for everyday users.
While precise plans for integrating Pac-Man collectibles into games are yet undisclosed, partnerships to expand their role in gaming are actively being pursued.
This event is one of the most ambitious location-based NFT quests so far, fusing mobile gaming dynamics with blockchain tech and a beloved game classic.
